President Ghani cancelled MoD oil contracts after $215 million fraud alleged were found, but MoD procurement and supply officials are emphasizing on transparency.

However, Yama Turabi a member of Independent Joint Anti-Corruption Monitoring & Evaluation Committee said,” I believe this is an unprecedented effort in Afghanistan history to fight against corruption; this might be the biggest scandal after Kabul Bank embezzlement crisis. SIGAR & NATO Combined Security Transition Command – Afghanistan (CSTC-A) were also involved in monitoring this contract and there are documents available showing lack of transparency”.

He added,” the only thing which is surprising is that Afghanistan law does not permit either civilian or military personal to speak against the President”.

On the other hand, Akram Afzali Executive Director of Integrity Watch of Afghanistan (IWA) believes that MoD contracts are corrupt.

“When governmental institutions are accused they stand even against the high ranking officials, this is not something new, this case must be investigated by MoD non-partisans, high governmental officials might be involved in this case, who controls economic and political issues in the country,” Mr. Afzali said.

These statements by Anti-Corruption M&E Committee and IWA come after the Supreme Court reacted against the President accusing them for corruptions and a number of governmental high ranking officials accused in Kabul Bank embezzlement.
