Pakistan Army Aids Insurgents To challenge Afghan Security Transition: ICG
The International Crises Group (ICG) has warned that Pakistan’s Army is supporting insurgent groups to make fail the process of security transfer from NATO to Afghan troops.
In its recent 31-page report, the International Crises Group has indicated Afghanistan can’t achieve peace as long as Pakistan doest improve its relations with Afghanistan and respect Kabul’s domestic and foreign policies.
“Pakistan’s civilian government has realized that the country’s stability is tied to peace in Afghanistan,” the report said. “But the Army has increased its support of insurgents to in order to challenge the process of transfer of security responsibility in Afghanistan.”
The report further added the ongoing efforts of Pakistan’s Prime Minister to improve relations with Kabul would be fruitless unless country’s foreign policy is revised.
So far, Pakistan’s government has not commented on the ICG report but many believe that Afghanistan’s peace is linked to Pakistan’s honesty in the fight against terrorism.
According to political analysts, Afghanistan can never achieve peace unless “Pakistan’s Army” completely eliminates insurgent hubs from the country.
