Pentagon increasing classification of Afghan construction information on American watchdogs: SIGAR

The United States Department of Defense has decided to deny providing classified military information to SIGAR (Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction).

According to SIGAR report the Pentagon will classify key data about reconstruction efforts and statistics in Afghanistan and will not provide to American watchdogs.

Washington Post has published documents on which Gen. John F. Campbell the U.S. Commander for Afghanistan has written,” “With lives literally on the line, I am sure that you can join me in recognizing that we must be careful to avoid providing sensitive information to those that threaten our forces and Afghan forces, particularly information that could be used by such opposing forces to sharpen their attacks,”

Atiqullah Amarkhail, an Afghan military expert said,” The United State government afraid on betrayals they have committed on financial documents that is why they are not willing to provide the documents to SIGAR”.

On the other hand, Afghanistan Ministry of Interior welcomed the Pentagon decision but emphasizing on transparency in U.S. funds released for Afghanistan reconstruction.

The office of the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction Known as SIGAR tasked with overseeing the U.S. reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan since six years to make sure the American taxpayer moneys are spent transparently to build, train, equip and sustain the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF).
