US sold 16 G222 airplanes to an Afghan Construction Company
The Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, or SIGAR said that its defense department converted $486 million worth of airplanes into scrap metal which it sold to an Afghan construction company for $32,000.
In a statement released from John Sopko, the Special Inspector General for Afghan Reconstruction office, airplanes worth $486 million purchased by the defense department of America for Afghanistan.
The twenty G222 planes are used to transport equipment and troops, were not put to use in the Afghan theatre because they “could not meet operational requirements,” Sopko said.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan defense ministry has said that they are supposed to receive 62 airplanes from the defense department of America by the end of this year.
