Uzbek president emphasizes need to engage with Afghan government

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Tuesday, June 10, emphasized the importance of constructive engagement with Afghanistan’s interim government.

Addressing participants at the Tashkent International Investment Forum, Mirziyoyev highlighted that fostering constructive international cooperation with Afghanistan’s current administration is crucial.

He stressed that, now more than ever, it is crucial to engage in constructive dialogue with the current government, especially as stability and economic development in Afghanistan are key factors for the long-term progress of all countries in the region.

The annual Tashkent International Investment Forum, held in the capital of Uzbekistan, brings together presidents, ministers, and senior officials from nearly 100 countries.

Afghanistan’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced that a delegation led by Acting Minister Nooruddin Azizi are in Uzbekistan for the high-profile event.

Abdul Salam Jawad Akhundzada, spokesperson for the Ministry, said that delegations from Afghanistan and Uzbekistan are expected to hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the forum to discuss the expansion of economic relations between the two neighboring countries.
