Women’s Network Wants Unity Government Ensure Equal Rights
The Afghan Women’s Network (AWN) has asked the newly-established government of national unity being led by Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai and Abdullah Abdullah to ensure women’s rights must be equal to men.
A day after the oath-taking ceremony of new President, a number of women activists in Kabul called on the President to consider women in the new government, in regards to the last thirteen-year achievements of women in Afghanistan.
“We got significant achievements over the past thirteen years, now we want to be included in the government, now we want to be in power,” said AWN head, Hasina Safi.
She mentioned that women must be given part in several sectors including education, health, politics, justice, security and economy.
“I hope the new cabinet will comprise more women than the previous cabinet,” women activist Samira Ahmadi said.
