Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said Saturday his government was trying to revive stalled peace talks between representative of Afghan government and the Taliban.

“We are now trying to resume the (peace) process and pray to God to crown our efforts with success,” Sharif said.

Islamabad always talks about their efforts to resume Afghan peace talks in words, but Kabul government has never confirmed that Pakistan is sincere on these efforts to bring a permanent peace in Afghanistan.

Afghan politicians believe Pakistan want to deceive Afghans and the international community by this type of announcements.

“We should not hear Pakistan, Pakistan raises peace voices to decrease pressures by the International community, the government of Afghanistan and the people of Afghanistan,” Zakaria Zakaria Member of Parliament from Kabul said.

Ghulam Farooq Majroh another MP from western Herat province said,” Pakistan plans a conspiracy and then recommends a plan to the government of Afghanistan. This is another huge conspiracy by Pakistan”.

Pakistan hosted the first round of talks between the two sides in July. But a second round of scheduled talks was postponed after the Afghan government revealed that Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar had been dead for two years.

Sharif questioned the timing of the announcement saying I don’t know who and why has released the news about the death of Mullah Omar as two days was left to begin second rounds of direct talks with Taliban.

“The news of Mullah Omar should not have been broken just before the start of the second round of talks. I don’t know who broke this news and why it was done so just two days before the start of the second round, is still a mystery,” he said.

This comes as recently the state department of US announced that US has provided $250 million in aid to Pakistan to fight against the terrorists in its country.

China says Afghanistan–Pakistan peace talks show progress

China has positioned itself as a facilitator, aiming to create conditions for dialogue and provide a platform for negotiations.

Negotiations between Afghanistan and Pakistan are making steady progress, China said on Friday, as efforts continue to ease tensions in their most serious conflict since the return of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in 2021.

Speaking at a regular press briefing, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said both sides had welcomed Beijing’s mediation and were willing to resume dialogue. “This is a positive development,” she said, noting that China remains in close communication with both governments.

Beijing— which shares a border with both countries—has stepped up diplomatic engagement in recent months, including calls with foreign ministers and a visit by a special envoy in March. Previous rounds of talks have reportedly taken place in Urumqi, though officials did not confirm the latest venue.

China has positioned itself as a facilitator, aiming to create conditions for dialogue and provide a platform for negotiations. Mao said further details would be released jointly by the three countries “in due course.”

Clashes between Afghan and Pakistani forces since October have killed dozens on both sides, with Afghan civilians bearing the brunt of the violence. Islamabad has accused Kabul of harboring militants responsible for cross-border attacks—an allegation Afghan authorities deny, calling militancy a domestic issue for Pakistan.

The renewed diplomatic push signals cautious optimism that tensions between the neighbors could ease through sustained dialogue under Chinese mediation.
