Acting minister of defense hosts envoys after regional meeting in Kabul
The acting Minister of Defense, Mohammad Yaqub Mujahid, hosted a number of representatives and ambassadors of regional countries in Kabul on Monday night, but met with the envoys of China, Pakistan and Iran separately.
He confirmed the commitment of the Islamic Emirate to establish stability and security of the country’s borders, strengthen friendly relations based on mutual respect with the countries and economic cooperation, the ministry said.
The ministry stated on X that after the successful completion of the first Afghanistan Regional Initiative Meeting in Kabul, special representatives and ambassadors of Russia, India, China, Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan attended an event organized by Mujahid.
During his meeting with the three envoys, Mujahid said: “The Islamic Emirate is ready to guarantee security and any other kind of cooperation for the initiation and completion of development projects by other countries in Afghanistan.”
Monday’s meeting with envoys from 11 regional countries focused on the new chapter of positive interaction between regional countries and the Islamic Emirate.
Also discussed was the coordination in the field of regional cooperation, creation of a common region-oriented narrative at the regional level, and joint cooperation to make the most of the economic opportunities in the region.

Afghanistan’s Embassy in Tokyo to suspend operations
The Embassy of Afghanistan in Japan, currently run by diplomats of the previous government, has announced that it will suspend its operations in Tokyo after the end of January 2026.
In a statement issued on Friday, the embassy said the decision was made after consultations with Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in close coordination with Japanese authorities, and in accordance with the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
The embassy added that after January 31, all of its political, economic, cultural, and consular activities will be halted until further notice.
Currently, Shaida Abdali is serving as Afghanistan’s ambassador to Japan.
