President Ghani Appoints New Electoral Commissioners
President Ashraf Ghani in separate decrees released on Sunday appointed new members of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) and the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC).
The commissioners have been picked among 81 candidates who have received votes of presidential candidates.
According to the presidential decree, the new IEC members are:
Sayed Esmatullah Mal, Mawlana Mohammad Abdullah, Awrang Zeb, Mohammad Hanif Danishyar, Musafir Qoqandi, Hawa Alam Nuristani, Rahima Zarifi and Habib-Ur-Rahman Nang who has been appointed as new head of the secretariat of the IEC.
According to the presidential decree, the new IECC members are:
Mohammad Qasim Elyasi, Zuhra Bayan Shinwari, Din Mohammad Azimi, Mohammad Yunus Tughra, Sayed Qutbuddin Roidar and Chaman Shah Etemadi who has been appointed as the new head of the secretariat of the IECC.
The appointment of new electoral commissioners come after all of the IEC and IECC members including heads of the two electoral bodies were dismissed from their posts following an amendment to the electoral law which was signed off by President Ghani.
