Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan forces on Sunday “neutralized” a group of militants in a raid on a suspected ISIS stronghold in Ghor province.

According to Zabihullah Mujahid, the IEA’s spokesman, the group “had orchestrated an attack targeting Shia civilians in the capital of Ghor on the 12th September 2024, resulting in the deaths of approximately 20 civilians.”

He said the group had also been implicated in various other attacks across Ghor, Kabul, and Bamiyan.

“Operations against the group were initiated last week by the Islamic Emirate’s Special Mujahideen Forces. By Allah’s grace, several members were apprehended and admitted responsibility for their actions,” he said.

“Today, Sunday, in the Marko region near Ghor’s capital, a successful raid on one of their strongholds led to the elimination of the group’s leader and another prominent member.

“A significant stockpile of weapons, ammunition, grenades, and explosives was recovered from the location,” Mujahid said.

“Unfortunately, this group was operating under the direct command of ISIS leadership based in Balochistan, executing their operations on the orders of ISIS-Khorasan authorities in the region.”

Tajik authorities say their border guards clashed with militants who crossed into Tajikistan’s Khatlon region from Afghanistan on Tuesday night.

Tajikistan’s State Committee for National Security said in a statement that militants intended to carry out an armed attack on one of the border outposts.

Three militants were killed and two Tajik soldiers died in the clash. From the scene, three firearms—an M-16 rifle and a Kalashnikov assault rifle—three foreign-made pistols equipped with suppressors, ten hand grenades, one night-vision device, explosives, and other military equipment were seized, according to the committee.

This was the third reported attack from Afghanistan into Tajikistan in the past month, with the previous ones targeting Chinese nationals.

The Islamic Emirate previously said it assured Tajikistan it was ready to tighten border security and conduct joint investigations.
