Afghanistan Ministry of Interior Affairs (MoIA) claims that the armed Taliban group defeated in Kundoz and the group will destroy before escaping the province.

Spokesman of MoIA declared that simultaneously with capturing the Char Dara district of Kundoz province, operations for suppressing Taliban are seriously ongoing in Imam Saheb Qala Zal and Dasht-e Archi districts.

Afghan troops have pushed back Taliban from one of their strongholds; Char Dara district of northern Kundoz province on late Tuesday and launched a counteroffensive against militants who had stormed the city days earlier.

“Nearly 100 Taliban insurgents were killed in several parts of the country in the past 24 hours and our Afghan security forces will use any facilities to suppress the Taliban group,” Sidiq Sidiqi, MoI spokesman said.

But sources on condition of anonymity say that the armed Taliban have replaced mines in Kabul-Kandahar highway and created many problems for passengers.

“Operations against Taliban fighters are also ongoing in Ghazni province and we will defeat them in any way possible,” Sidiqi added.

Afghan forces took over responsibility for security this year as the U.S. and its coalition partners largely ended their combat role.

This comes as earlier the Taliban chief Mullah Akhtar Mansoor has asked the Afghan government to accept its ‘defeat’ in the northern city of Kunduz, advising Kabul against the attribution of Taliban ‘victory’ to foreign intelligence.

China says Afghanistan–Pakistan peace talks show progress

China has positioned itself as a facilitator, aiming to create conditions for dialogue and provide a platform for negotiations.

Negotiations between Afghanistan and Pakistan are making steady progress, China said on Friday, as efforts continue to ease tensions in their most serious conflict since the return of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in 2021.

Speaking at a regular press briefing, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said both sides had welcomed Beijing’s mediation and were willing to resume dialogue. “This is a positive development,” she said, noting that China remains in close communication with both governments.

Beijing— which shares a border with both countries—has stepped up diplomatic engagement in recent months, including calls with foreign ministers and a visit by a special envoy in March. Previous rounds of talks have reportedly taken place in Urumqi, though officials did not confirm the latest venue.

China has positioned itself as a facilitator, aiming to create conditions for dialogue and provide a platform for negotiations. Mao said further details would be released jointly by the three countries “in due course.”

Clashes between Afghan and Pakistani forces since October have killed dozens on both sides, with Afghan civilians bearing the brunt of the violence. Islamabad has accused Kabul of harboring militants responsible for cross-border attacks—an allegation Afghan authorities deny, calling militancy a domestic issue for Pakistan.

The renewed diplomatic push signals cautious optimism that tensions between the neighbors could ease through sustained dialogue under Chinese mediation.
