AWCC renovates business lounge at Kabul airport

Afghan Wireless Communication Company (AWCC) has renovated a special lounge for businessmen in the domestic terminal of Kabul International Airport.

AWCC officials say that they are ready to cooperate in the implementation of public benefit projects in other local and international airports of the country.

“As a responsible company, we want to be involved shoulder to shoulder with our officials in every area of reconstruction that we can. We are committed to investing in Afghanistan and we will continue it,” said Aliullah Sarwari, CEO of AWCC.

Airports are the first landmark of a country that passengers experience when they enter, therefore the officials of the Ministry of Transport and Aviation and the officials of the Kabul International Airport welcome the AWCC’s move.

“Spring has arrived in our country. Humans do not sit idle in spring. If they sit idle in the spring, they will face hardship in the winter. The time has come for the development of our country. Our country needs rebuilding. The role of investors is very important here. National companies and businessmen must take part,” said Abdul Hadi Mohammad, head of Kabul International Airport.

Sediqullah Abid, administrative and financial deputy of the Ministry of Transport and Aviation, said: “It is out of the good feeling of the companies that they have cooperated with us in the development of Kabul airport and implemented some projects with their own money. We appreciate it.”

In the meantime, AWCC and Kabul International Airport officials also signed a memorandum of cooperation (MoU).

Based on the MoU, AWCC will provide internet services for passengers in the lounge and will participate in other public benefit projects.

The construction of the entrance of the international airport is part of the agreement. The foundation stone was laid by AWCC and Transport Ministry officials.

“This MoU includes the provision of internet at Kabul International Airport by AWCC, the implementation of the fiber project, the construction of entrances, and other public benefit projects that you will witness in the future,” said Suleiman Khorram, head of the central zone of AWCC.

AWCC officials say the company partners with the government in the development of the country and in addition to providing job opportunities, it will facilitate new technology for the people.

Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman Tahir Hussain Andrabi says both Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Sadyr Japarov, the President of Kyrgyzstan, who visited Islamabad on Thursday, expressed their mutual commitment to a peaceful, stable Afghanistan with a sustainable future for the Afghan people.

Speaking in a press conference on Friday, Andrabi stated that both sides agreed that the Islamic Emirate must fulfill its obligations toward the international community and take concrete steps against terrorist groups to address Pakistan’s legitimate security concerns.

This comes while the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has repeatedly emphasized that no terrorist groups operate from Afghan territory and that it will not allow anyone to use Afghan soil against any country.

The Islamic Emirate has also stated that Pakistan’s security concerns are an internal issue of that country, and Pakistan itself must take measures to prevent any security incidents.

Russian President Vladimir Putin says Afghanistan has taken “active and effective” steps to curb drug trafficking, noting a significant drop in opium production across the country. He made the remarks during an exclusive interview with India Today during his India trip, highlighting what he described as “visible progress” in Afghanistan’s internal security efforts.

Putin stated that Afghan authorities have “substantially reduced” opium cultivation and are “seriously confronting” drug-related threats from within their borders. He added that Afghanistan has also made important advancements in the fight against terrorism.

Responding to a question about why Russia officially recognized the Islamic Emirate, the Russian president said Afghanistan had been engulfed in civil conflict for many years, but the current authorities now hold control over the country. “This is the reality, and it must be acknowledged,” Putin emphasized.

He further noted that maintaining contact with Afghanistan’s leadership is crucial for shaping events inside the country. “If you want influence, you must engage with the people in charge — and that is exactly what we are doing,” he said.

Putin’s remarks come as several regional powers continue to recalibrate their diplomatic strategies toward Afghanistan, focusing on stability, counterterrorism, and economic cooperation.
