All Electoral Commissioners Including IEC, IECC Chiefs Dismissed
President Ashraf Ghani has signed off the final draft of amendment to electoral law after being approved by the members of the cabinet.
Presidential Palace has confirmed that in signing off the amendment to the electoral law, all of the electoral commissioners including the heads of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) and Independent Electoral Commissioners (IECC) are automatically dismissed with immediate effect.
In a decree, President Ghani said that in order to prevent disruption in the working process, the heads of Secretariat of both electoral bodies will temporarily take charge as acting chairmen of the electoral commissions.
The amendment to electoral law was prepared after a meeting between the Presidential nominees, civil society leaders, political parties and election watchdog organizations in the Presidential Palace.
