US says it monitors situation to curb terrorist threats from Afghanistan

U.S. Department of State says Washington is monitoring the situation in Afghanistan to curb terrorist threats from this country.

Speaking in a press conference, U.S. State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller has called on the Islamic Emirate officials to stick to their commitments to prevent terrorism.

Miller considered the killing of Ayman al-Zawahiri, the leader of al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, as a sign of close monitoring by the US and stressed that if there is a danger, it will target these groups in Afghanistan.

He added that Washington will be ready to act against terrorist groups in any situation.

“We continue to make it clear to the Taliban [Islamic Emirate] that they must abide by the anti-terrorist commitments they have made. We also can monitor the situation and respond to terrorist activities in Afghanistan, and we proved this by killing the leader of al-Qaeda in July 2022, and we continue our activities to protect the United States,” Miller stressed.

However, IEA’s Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid emphasized no terrorist group is active in the country and they do not allow anyone to operate against the security of a nation using Afghanistan’s soil.

“We committed there (Doha Agreement) that Afghanistan will not be allowed to participate or have military activity against America and its allies. Over the past two years, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has not allowed anyone, nor has there been any incident that harmed America from Afghanistan; this is a commitment,” Mujahid stressed.

Earlier, the United Nations Security Council expressed concern over the presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan and called this country a threat to world security.

Meanwhile, IEA has repeatedly assured the countries of the region and the world over the past two years that Afghanistan’s soil is not a threat to any country and emphasized that the concerns are “baseless”.

The recent talks in Saudi Arabia were the latest in a series of meetings hosted by Qatar, Turkey and Saudi Arabia aimed at easing tensions after deadly clashes near the Durand Line in October. Dozens were killed in the clashes in October.

Islamabad claims that Afghanistan-based militants carried out the recent attacks in Pakistan. Kabul denies the allegations, saying it cannot be held responsible for security inside Pakistan.

Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Islamic Emirate, said Afghan forces had responded to the recent Pakistani attacks.

Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman Tahir Hussain Andrabi says both Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Sadyr Japarov, the President of Kyrgyzstan, who visited Islamabad on Thursday, expressed their mutual commitment to a peaceful, stable Afghanistan with a sustainable future for the Afghan people.

Speaking in a press conference on Friday, Andrabi stated that both sides agreed that the Islamic Emirate must fulfill its obligations toward the international community and take concrete steps against terrorist groups to address Pakistan’s legitimate security concerns.

This comes while the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has repeatedly emphasized that no terrorist groups operate from Afghan territory and that it will not allow anyone to use Afghan soil against any country.

The Islamic Emirate has also stated that Pakistan’s security concerns are an internal issue of that country, and Pakistan itself must take measures to prevent any security incidents.
