Mawlavi Abdul Kabir, the prime minister’s deputy for political affairs, says Afghanistan needs a modern education system that meets international standards.

Speaking at a two-day conference under the theme “National Conference on the Improvement of Educational Institutions in Afghanistan”, held at Kabul Education University on Wednesday, Kabir said that the Islamic Emirate is committed to providing quality education in the country.

He said that over the last four decades, the country’s educational system has been severely damaged.

Acting Minister of Education, Habibullha Agha, also said he considers the modern and religious educational system in the country to be weak in terms of quality and emphasized that efforts are underway to strengthen the system.

Acting Minister of Higher Education, Neda Mohammad Nadim, has also said that education is the foundation of all departments and everyone is responsible for strengthening it.

He added that they have more coordination with the Ministry of Education to strengthen the educational system of the country.

The organizers of this conference, however, added that existing opportunities should be used to strengthen the system.

In this two-day conference, 182 research articles on strengthening the country’s education system are expected to be presented.

Tajik authorities say their border guards clashed with militants who crossed into Tajikistan’s Khatlon region from Afghanistan on Tuesday night.

Tajikistan’s State Committee for National Security said in a statement that militants intended to carry out an armed attack on one of the border outposts.

Three militants were killed and two Tajik soldiers died in the clash. From the scene, three firearms—an M-16 rifle and a Kalashnikov assault rifle—three foreign-made pistols equipped with suppressors, ten hand grenades, one night-vision device, explosives, and other military equipment were seized, according to the committee.

This was the third reported attack from Afghanistan into Tajikistan in the past month, with the previous ones targeting Chinese nationals.

The Islamic Emirate previously said it assured Tajikistan it was ready to tighten border security and conduct joint investigations.
