IEA will complete construction of Jalalabad–Torkham road if Pakistan doesn’t: minister
Acting Minister of Public Works Mohammad Esa Thani has said that if Pakistan does not complete the construction of the second lane of the Jalalabad-Torkham highway, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) will do it.
The construction of the road, which is 75 kilometers long, had begun 16 years ago with the financial commitment of Pakistan, but it has not been completed yet.
Thani, during his visit to Nangarhar province with Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, also said that technical teams have been dispatched to visit the second lane of the Kabul-Jalalabad highway and the issue of resuming the project will be discussed with the leader of the Islamic Emirate.
“All problems will be addressed, but based on priorities, we will seek to discuss with the leadership of the Islamic Emirate about the start of the second Kabul-Nangarhar road. We hope that this problem will be solved soon,” Baradar said.
He emphasized that security plays an important role in the economic and political development of countries, which is now ensured in Afghanistan.
“Security prevails all over the country and things are done according to a decree all over the country. Everything will settle but it will take some time. We must cooperate,” Baradar said.
He also asked the Afghans living abroad to return to the country to get rid of the problems in hosting countries.
