Amendment Draft For Electoral Law to be Finalized in Two Days
The Presidential Palace (ARG) said that the preliminary draft to amend the electoral law has been prepared, following a meeting between the Presidential nominees, civil society leaders, political parties and election watchdog organizations on Friday.
“The draft has been prepared as a result of 20 consultative meetings, taking all stakeholders’ inputs into account,” President Ghani’s office said in a statement on Saturday.
According to the statement, a technical committee comprised of all stakeholders is expected to finalize the proposed amendments brought in the draft in two days.
Abdulbadi Sayad, the chairman Independent Election Commission (IEC), meanwhile, said that they will accept any amendment being brought in to the electoral law if it is in line with law.
He stressed that if the amendment draft is in contrary with law and the electoral commissions and legislative bodies would not accept it.
